Participation
Who can participate?
BIAN Membership is open to organizations that conduct business in the banking industry. BIAN has one type of Membership categories but honours size and type of member via adjusted fees.
All Members thus have the same rights and obligations. Banks will be charged lower fees than software and service providers to reward the fact that they play the role of user or consumer as well as provider of services in the industry.
Members of BIAN drive the banking industry by understanding the requirements and trends as well as by designing and providing new IT-solutions therefore.
In acknowledgement of their significant contributions, they are recognized at BIAN events, and on the BIAN website. They are eligible to attend board meetings and take part in voting.
Roles
The association will live by the participation of its members. It is assumed that members contribute actively in the association. However the degree of involvement can vary according multiple aspects. Influencing for the involvement are e.g. the role within BIAN, specific working topics and the current projects within BIAN and the own company.
Important roles in BIAN are described in the following. Single individuals can of course take over more than one role:
Delegates
The delegate is the authorized voter of a company taking part in the yearly general assembly of BIAN. Delegates elect the board of directors and take over some tasks on the strategic and operational level of BIAN. The effort for a delegate is around 2-3 days per year maximum.
Representative
A representative is the contact from a member to BIAN and vice versa. Representatives should have a good network within their own company and have the major task to connect appropriate experts to BIAN discussions and working groups. Additionally representatives drive BIAN by contributing to the Working Groups of BIAN and their initiation. A representative should plan an involvement of 8-12 man days, including the public events of BIAN. This role is essential for the success of BIAN and thus the nomination of a representative is obligatory.
Expert
Experts contribute to the definition of specifications and results. Highly active experts should plan around 8-12 man days per year as well. However the working mode is setup in a way, that allows to bring in Experts e.g. for reviews or fine granular topics up to two days.
Architecture Board Members
All members are invited to take a seat in the Architecture Board of BIAN. The Architecture Board is the governance body of BIAN. The main working mode is virtual conferences. The current setup foresees a monthly call for 2 hours and a few (2-3) presence meetings per one day a year. Including preparation and reviews this sums up to 6-8 days per year.
A company can send experts to multiple working groups, currently there is no upper limit on this kind of participation. It is however recommended, that a company sends at least one expert to BIAN events and Working Groups with an involvement of around 10 days per year.
