More than ever, banks must adapt to a rapidly changing business environment in order to remain competitive. Financial institutions need to deliver innovative products that enhance the customer experience. At the same time, they have to increase flexibility and reduce costs. However, banks' IT infrastructures are slowing them down by a lack of interoperability.
Every year, the banking industry spends billions on IT projects and proprietary platforms - analyst house Ovum predicts IT spend in financial services will increase to $90 billion by 2015. All players face the same challenges: obsolete software, high integration costs, complex IT systems and a limited choice of off-the-shelf software.

BIAN welcomes IBM as newest member and on to BIAN Board of Directors
London – January 11th, 2012 – BIAN, the Banking Industry Architecture Network, today welcomes IBM as the newest member to its community which promotes standards within banking. As well as becoming a full member of the BIAN community, Chae An, IBM’s vice president of financial services solutions, will take a position on BIAN’s Board. Since its inception in 2008, BIAN’s mission has been to establish a service-oriented architecture (SOA) standard in the banking industry. Having gained significant momentum – in 2011, BIAN signed nine new members, and launched its new service landscape – the organisation is entering a new stage of maturity. The addition of prominent banking technology visionary, IBM, to the Board is the catalyst to delivering standards with greater quality at a faster pace, ultimately ensuring successful embedment within the industry. more

BIAN Analytics Working Group Publishes First Set of Deliverables on Profitability Valuation Aimed at Helping Banks
FRANKFURT, GUETERSLOH AND WALLDORF, Germany — Oct. 28, 2010 — SAP AG (NYSE: SAP) and the Banking Industry Architecture Network (BIAN), in cooperation with the BIAN Analytics working group, today announced the publication of two white papers on profitability valuation. The results highlighted represent a true opportunity for banks to accelerate the replacement of inflexible analytical systems with solutions based on a more flexible service-oriented architecture- (SOA) based analytic environment. This first set of deliverables from the group has resulted from collaboration with three key contributors to the working group: SAP, syskoplan AG and zeb/.
The BIAN Analytics working group is focused on the analytical systems of banks, which are often characterized by a large number of interfaces from operational systems. By employing an SOA-based analytical environment, banks can reduce the integration costs of their systems and enable software vendors to develop the required products more quickly, flexibly and with less effort.

Cooperation Between FERNBACH-Software and BIAN Bears Fruit
Luxembourg and Frankfurt. Since international software provider FERNBACH-Software joined the independent industrial association BIAN (Banking Industry Architecture Network) in 2008, their work has come a long way. FERNBACH is not only the Chairman of the Lending working group but has also worked with SAP and other working group members to prepare the first set of deliverables. Together, FERNBACH and BIAN aim to simplify implementation of SOA (service-oriented architecture) and to strengthen interoperability between individual software modules. Existing standard technologies and specifications will be used to create a comprehensive framework for specialised semantically defined services for the banking industry. BIAN readies first deliverables
The Banking Industry Architecture Network (BIAN) is set to publish its initial deliverables in June, somewhat over a year after it was spun out of an SAP-led initiative (IBS Online, May 2008). Those deliverables, which will be available to the industry as a whole, will comprise documents covering the services landscape, meta-model definition, services lifecycle management, and service repositories and registries, plus business definitions for service lifecycle management, payment agreements, payment execution, clearing and settlement, business partners, business partner agreements, and business partner relationships. more
